Choosing the Right Hemp Oil

Hybrid CBD Oil

When shopping for an everyday hemp product, most people often turn to hemp oils. Favored for their consistency, convenience, and price, hemp oils should be a key part of every wellness routine. But before you add to the cart, here are a few things to consider…

Not All Hemp Oils are Created Equally

Just like how gas-station coffee differs from one bought at a local coffee roaster, hemp oils come in a wide range of quality. From sourcing ingredients to the potency or just the overall flavor- these are some of the significant factors to consider before purchasing your next hemp oil.

Potency

The milligram strength of hemp oil tells you how many milligrams of pure cannabinoids are in the whole bottle. For example, our CBD Oils come in a 500mg or 1,000mg potency. This means that the entire bottle has 500mg/1,000mg of pure CBD in each bottle (this does not mean that you will be taking 500mg every time you take a serving).

Most oils come packaged in small bottles with a dropper built directly into the lid. This dropper is to be used for consumption and can help keep dosing accurate. For example, our CBD Oils recommended dose is one full dropper, which equates to about 16mg of CBD per serving.

Hemp oils can be infused with a variety of cannabinoids and at varying strengths to provide different effects.  Hemp oils can be as low as 100mg per bottle or all the way up to 5,000mg per bottle.

Choosing the right hemp oil comes down to identifying what your needs are and what cannabinoid(s) are most likely to provide you with the desired effects. If you are unsure which cannabinoid is right for you I recommend browsing our other blog topics to learn more.

Quality Ingredients

Hemp oils are meant to be consumed regularly (if not daily) and should have clean ingredients that will not disrupt your pre-existing diet. Even better if the ingredients are ethically sourced and/or organic. It is important to keep in mind that different oils will have different vitamins/minerals.

Seventh Hill uses four natural ingredients in our hemp oils:

  1. Organic Hemp Seed Oil: the carrier oil.
  2. Hemp Extract: the plant magic.
  3. Organic Sunflower Lecithin: binds it all together.
  4. Organic Botanical Terpenes: effects + flavor.

Flavor

Most hemp oils have some sort of flavor added. Here are the two things you need to consider in regard to choosing the right hemp oil and its flavor:

  1. What does a “good flavor” taste like to you? Do you like keeping things el natural? Or do you tend to have a sweet tooth?
  2. It is important that the flavor of the hemp oil is tolerable for you and your preferences. If you are dreading the way something tastes, it will likely go to waste.

Seventh Hill uses organic botanical terpenes to give our hemp oils their naturally sweet + subtle flavor. Terpenes also add additional benefits to our oils (mentioned in the next section).

Overall Effects

The hemp plant is rich in a diverse array of unique compounds, with cannabinoids being just one part. A truly full-spectrum hemp oil should have a variety of cannabinoids and terpenes for the most pronounced effects. In fact, science has shown that products with both cannabinoids and terpenes tend to be the most effective hemp products. By synergizing terpenes and cannabinoids together, hemp oil can have more consistent and diverse effects.

Seventh Hill strategically uses terpenes in conjunction with complex cannabinoid profiles to give our products unique and reliable effects. For example, our Rise CBD Oil has uplifting terpenes for a sativa-inspired experience. Whereas our CBN Oil has relaxing terpenes that work in harmony with its cannabinoid profile to promote sleep.

The Carrier Oil

Cannabinoids and terpenes are the plant magic while the oil is the message carrier. Cannabinoids bind best to fatty substances which is why hemp-seed oil is a great carrier. The carrier oil used should be neutral in flavor and healthy to ingest on a daily basis.

Seventh Hill uses this Organic Virgin Hemp Seed Oil which is crafted with hulled-out hemp seeds and a cold-press method. We prefer this oil for its rich fatty content which helps with cannabinoid consumption plus has additional health benefits. Plus it just felt right to put the cannabinoids and terpenes back into something familiar.

Cost

Many people are surprised to learn what it costs to produce a quality hemp oil. Oftentimes, the ingredients and labor cost more than the hemp extract itself. There is a fine line when it comes to correlating a higher price tag with higher quality. Charging more than $40 for 500mg is unnecessary- no matter how quality the ingredients. Most folks seek comfort from their hemp oil every day, there is no need to charge an arm and a leg for one of the most simple products.

Third Party Testing

One thing that you must look for whenever buying a hemp product is a third-party lab test. Any legitimate hemp company should send batches of finished products to a third-party lab for thorough, unbiased testing and then provide the given analysis to consumers.  A lab report shows customers the exact amount of mg present in the finished product and is an irreplaceable seal of trust for a brand.

Choosing the Right Hemp Oil

Hemp Oils are a discrete, safe, effective, and extremely reliable way to experiment with hemp-derived products. However, not all hemp oils are created with the same love and care. Be sure to do your own research before purchasing your own hemp oil.
